Insomnia Causes

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Insomnia causes can range from medical conditions, medications, physical problems such as restless leg syndrome, Emotional problems, sleep apnea etc. These are secondary causes of insomnia and should be diagnosed by a medical professional.

Let’s look at some primary causes for insomnia.

Sleep Schedule

If your schedule changes drastically, possibly due to your working hours that can cause difficulty with your sleep patterns.

Coffee and Alcohol

Caffeine can cause not only problems with falling asleep, but also causing you to wake up throughout the night. Consuming caffeine even in the afternoon can have an effect on your sleep. Alcohol, contrary to popular belief, is not a sleep aid. After consuming alcohol you may fall asleep faster due to the relaxing effects, but the sleep will not be as deep and can cause you to wake up more frequently.

Stimulants such as weight loss products, some medications for allergy and obviously, any of the “energy drinks” on the market can cause problems sleeping even when consumed early in the day.

Stress

Stress is of course a large cause for insomnia. Finding ways to effectively deal with stressors in your life, including chi gong, yoga, counseling will serve you in many ways. Not sleeping due to stress is your body warning you that things are not OK and you need to find a way to deal with your stress in a constructive way. Natural Herbal formulas can be genuinely helpful with no side effects.

Insomnia as a Pattern of Behavior

Insomnia is much a learned behavior. Think Pavlovs dog. It can become a vicious cycle. Besides laying awake due to worry, many insomniacs have the added worry that they worry about not sleeping and how tired they will be the next day. Watching the clock, calculating how many hours before they have to get up.
Trying to sleep can set up a whole mountain of negativity. Simply readying oneself for bed can cause so much stress that sleep is nowhere to be found. When the whole subject of sleep becomes charged and uncomfortable that needs to be addressed first.

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

We are all for doing natural things to get a good nights sleep, and banish insomnia. Herbs have been successfully used for thousands of years in all cultures on our planet. Herbs can be used as a tea, such as Chamomile tea, it can be used in the bath tub to help relax and let go of stress in order to ease going to sleep.

Herbal remedies can also be taken internally, EZDoze is a blend of herbs in conjunction with melatonin which is know as the “sleep hormone” and together they make a potent sleep aid without side effects.

Sound frequencies to induce sleep is a modern remedy. Pleasant sound waves used with headphones will alter your brain wave frequencies to help you enter a rest-full and deep sleep. These sound frequencies are completely harmless and very pleasant to boot. We have been a long term user of sound frequencies and find them not only effective, but very pleasant as well.

Aromatic oils is another gentle and very pleasing remedy to sleep. Aromatic oils do have an effect on your brain and certain oils have a calmative, sleep promoting effect. Some oils helpful for insomnia are:

  1. Lavender
  2. Mandarin
  3. Sandalwood
  4. Chamomile
  5. Vetiver
  6. Lemon
  7. Marjoram
  8. Valerian

Some favorite blends are:

A. Lavender/Mandarin 10 drops each. Or:

B. Vetiver 5 drops/Sandalwood 10 drops.

C. Chamomile 10 drops/Sandalwood 15 drops/Lemon 5 drops.

Add 10 drops of a blend into a warm bath. Soak with the door closed in order to keep the aromatic oils in the room. Diffuse the oils in a diffuser in your bedroom, add the oils to a good quality vegetable oil base and massage them into the skin or place them on a cotton ball next to your pillow. They can also be rubbed into the temples, behind the back of the knees and on the wrists. We do recommend to purchase your essential oils from a reputable aromatherapy specialist.

Some pleasant sound frequencies in combination with EZDoze and a wonderfully relaxing aromatherapy blend sleep is waiting to get YOU.
