Insomnia Causes

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Insomnia causes can range from medical conditions, medications, physical problems such as restless leg syndrome, Emotional problems, sleep apnea etc. These are secondary causes of insomnia and should be diagnosed by a medical professional.

Let’s look at some primary causes for insomnia.

Sleep Schedule

If your schedule changes drastically, possibly due to your working hours that can cause difficulty with your sleep patterns.

Coffee and Alcohol

Caffeine can cause not only problems with falling asleep, but also causing you to wake up throughout the night. Consuming caffeine even in the afternoon can have an effect on your sleep. Alcohol, contrary to popular belief, is not a sleep aid. After consuming alcohol you may fall asleep faster due to the relaxing effects, but the sleep will not be as deep and can cause you to wake up more frequently.

Stimulants such as weight loss products, some medications for allergy and obviously, any of the “energy drinks” on the market can cause problems sleeping even when consumed early in the day.

Stress

Stress is of course a large cause for insomnia. Finding ways to effectively deal with stressors in your life, including chi gong, yoga, counseling will serve you in many ways. Not sleeping due to stress is your body warning you that things are not OK and you need to find a way to deal with your stress in a constructive way. Natural Herbal formulas can be genuinely helpful with no side effects.

Insomnia as a Pattern of Behavior

Insomnia is much a learned behavior. Think Pavlovs dog. It can become a vicious cycle. Besides laying awake due to worry, many insomniacs have the added worry that they worry about not sleeping and how tired they will be the next day. Watching the clock, calculating how many hours before they have to get up.
Trying to sleep can set up a whole mountain of negativity. Simply readying oneself for bed can cause so much stress that sleep is nowhere to be found. When the whole subject of sleep becomes charged and uncomfortable that needs to be addressed first.

Anxiety Insomnia -Do You Worry In Bed?

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Anxiety is a common cause of insomnia . Going to bed worrying about things makes not only for a bad night’s sleep, it sets up a pattern that just has to be broken. We are such creatures of habit and once you have started worrying when your head hits the pillow your mind will go into “worry mode” automatically every time you go to bed.

Do you know that every thought you think sets off a chemical reaction?

When you think worrisome thoughts your brain will produce neuro chemicals that will CAUSE you to feel worry.

Once you feel worry, you will really step up the amount of worrisome thoughts which causes you to create more neuro chemicals to make you feel even more worried and anxious. So, this can become a vicious cycle started by one small worrisome thought and before you know it you are sleepless with worry.

Worrying at night is also never very productive. Do you remember one single time when you worried at night and actually came up with some workable solution? When you are in “worry mode” or have anxiety solutions can’t come. On top of that, any small problem we may have, seem insurmountable at 3 AM.

So how do you stop worrying and thinking things that causes anxiety? First of all it is important to recognize that YOU are the only thinker in your head, and that YOU actually control what you think. Yes you do. The challenge is that frequently we are not even aware of where our thoughts go, besides not recognizing that we can absolutely choose what we think.

The next time you go to bed, or wake up in the middle of the night and your mind is “catastropfizing” or you begin to worry about things, trying to solve problems, recognize what you are doing and stop. Deliberately think of something pleasant. You may have to have a little list ready with pleasant things, and choose something that when you think about it it makes you feel good.

What typically happens is that after a minute or two you are back worrying again, so you bring your mind back again to the pleasant thoughts. Natural Herbs can also be used to induce a relaxed state of mind and body to fall asleep easily when feeling worried.

It can even be helpful to have a little internal dialogue when your mind goes into worry mode. You can say things to yourself such as “Whoa! Where are you going with that?” Doing this can require a bit of persistence. Remember, you are breaking a pattern so repetitively bringing your mind back to your pleasant thought will pay off eventually. As you do this it will become easier and easier to stop the unproductive, sleep robbing, anxiety producing, worrying at night.

If you have anxiety during the day as well, we would like to recommend the best selling program, Panic Away to help end your anxiety permanently.
